Travis Jay Sizeland

Travis Jay Sizeland, 38, of Traverse City, passed away unexpectedly at home on Monday, August 10, 2026.

Travis was born on May 11, 1988, in Cadillac to Steve and Valerie (Racine) Sizeland. A 2006 graduate of West Senior High School, Travis was known for his incredible work ethic and his unwavering dedication to his family and friends. From his early days as a lifeguard at Great Wolf Lodge to the many professional roles he excelled in, he was an honest, hard-working man who naturally rose to the top of every company he joined.

Travis was a friend to everyone he met—a kind, gentle soul who would help anyone, whether they asked for it or not. A complete handyman, he found true joy in fixing things or creating something new. His creativity was evident from a young age through his drawing, a talent that evolved into a lifelong ability to build and solve problems. Whether he was helping put a new roof on the family house or acting as the family’s resident mechanic, he was the first person his siblings would call in any trouble, and he always answered.

His adventurous spirit was legendary. Travis lived life with a sense of fun that his family will never forget—from the time he jumped his snowmobile over the road to the days he would drive the lawnmower through the subdivision just to get to his friend Aaron’s house. He had a deep love for music and a talent for sharing it; he even learned how to DJ from his step-father, Tom, adding a soundtrack to the lives of those around him.

His greatest joy in life was his family. Travis loved being a father more than anything in the world. He was a proud father to Jayden, Xander, and Zelda. He was also a pillar for his nephews and nieces, serving as the best uncle and role model a child could ask for.

Growing up, he loved spending hours gaming with friends, creating lasting memories through titles like Super Smash Brothers, Call of Duty, and Guitar Hero. As he got older, he continued to enjoy the outdoors through snowboarding, snowmobiling, and fishing, but above all, Travis simply loved being around people. His home was always open to everyone, and his presence was the solid rock upon which many friendships were built.

Travis is survived by his parents, Steve (Michele) Sizeland and Valerie (Thomas) Myers; his partner, Taylor Besneatte; his children, Jayden, Xander, and Zelda Sizeland; his siblings, Stephanie (Steve) Freundl, Naomi Myers, Natalie (Matt Chorvath) Myers, Zac (Cassie) Nedow, Morgan (David) Phillion, and Kendra (TJ) Mcwhorter; his nephews, Elijah, Finnegan, Waylon, Bennett, Dawson, and Isaiah; his niece, Marilyn; and many loving cousins, extended family members, and dear friends.

The sudden loss of Travis is unfathomable to all who knew him. He was a son, a brother, a father, and a friend who was never truly alone because of the immense love he gave and received. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 15, 2026, at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City, with a luncheon to follow.
