Traverse City – " Tom" Trenton Poole Thompson, 71, of Traverse City passed away November 7, 2015 at Munson Medical Center with his family by his side. He died after a vigorous fight with pneumonia due to complications from cancer.
Tom was born on January 8, 1944 in Detroit to parents Orville Trenton and Nancy Buros Smith Thompson. His family was of Norwegian and Irish ancestry.
Tom attended Seaholm High School in Birmingham. Later, he served our country honorably as a member of the United States Army in the Vietnam conflict.
On December 6, 1974, he married Evelyn Miller. Shortly after, he and Evelyn moved to Traverse City to raise a family.
Tom was enjoying retirement from his work as a financial advisor at Raymond James and Associates (previously Roney & Co.) where he worked for over 30 years. In his spare time he loved to golf, collect stamps, and watch Red Wings hockey. Tom was an active member of the Traverse City Lions Club for many years and served as president of the club for a time. Tom was also active in the Disabled American Veterans. Additionally, he was a devoted member of Grace Episcopal Church. He attended services there weekly and was a member of the men's club and served on the church board.
Tom is survived by his wife of 40 years Evelyn, son Douglas (Ebru Ozer) Thompson of Miami, FL, daughter Nancy (Eric) Send of Interlochen; grandchildren Ada Thompson of Miami, FL, and Eva and Emery Send and one grandchild on the way; brother Jim Thompson and many other family members and friends. He was greatly loved and will be missed.
Visitation for friends and family will be held on Wednesday, November 11, 2015 at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City from 5 to 8 pm. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, November 12, 2015 at 11:00 am at Grace Episcopal Church.
Memorial contributions in memory of Tom may be directed to the Disabled American Veterans.
