TRAVERSE CITY – Valerie Dunlap, 63, of Traverse City passed away on Tuesday, October 30th, 2018 at her home.
An only child, Valerie Anne Dunlap was born to Gloria and Ernest Dunlap Jr. on April 20th, 1955 at Oakwood Hospital in Dearborn, Michigan. Valerie attended Traverse City Junior High on Eighth Street, and was a graduate of Traverse City Senior High School. She had worked as a waitress at the Cherry Capital Airport and Waterfront Inn, a bus driver, bus patrol at Cherry Knoll Elementary School, florist, and devoted caregiver to the elders in Grand Traverse County. Valerie left her impression upon others as a humorist and with unwavering positive thinking, contagious to all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Valerie will be fondly remembered for her green thumb and love of gardening and her love for fashion. Additionally, Valerie enjoyed spending time in the sun at her home in Naples, Florida.
Those left to honor her memory include an extended family and many friends, neighbors, and her very special dog Shadow.
Valerie is preceded in death by her parents.
A gathering to celebrate Valerie's life will take place on Thursday, November 15, 2018, from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, 305 Sixth Street, Traverse City. To honor Valerie's memory, memorial donations may be directed to the Cherryland Humane Society.
