Vera May Sparks of Traverse City entered into rest on March 19, 2014 at the age of 83. She was born at home in Thompsonville April 27, 1930 to Clifford LeRoy and Elsie Mae(Rust) Wright. Vera married Lyle Sparks Jr. in 1947 and he preceded her in death in 2002 . Vera remarried in 2011 to LaVern Meachum and they enjoyed time dancing, camping and playing music. Vera was very active in the First Christian Church in Traverse City, she taught Sunday school for 60 years, served as the Christian Education Director and Children's Music Director. Vera also was a Chior member, president of the Men's and Women's Group and President of Christian Women United. She also coordinated the Community Meal program for the homeless for 20 years and organized a 6 week Lenten luncheon event for the community and organized 2 craft shows per year for local Church Missions. Vera enjoyed serving the Lord in any way that she could.
Vera is survived by LaVern, Daughters; Diana Sparks and Darla Seigh of Traverse City. Stepchildren; Ron(Yvonne) Meachum and Janie(Larry) Flees,grandchildren Paul(Jenny) Sparks, Crystal Seigh and Kelsie(Nate) Matthews, stepgrandchildren;Kimberly Peltier adn Kristi(Christopher) Cuddington and Step great grandchildren; Isabelle Peltier and Sammy Cuddington, brother; Willard(Velma) Wright, sister Shirley Brian and 10 nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday March 25, at 11:00AM at The First Christian Church with Pastor Brett Spaulding officiating, visitation will be held one hour prior.
Memorials may be made to the Church or Cherryland Humane Society.
