Vernon "Buck" Lewis Jewell, 91 of Interlochen passed away peacefully on October 4, 2013 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Buck was born on March 3, 1922 in Grand Traverse County to the late Lewis and Camille (Kreml) Jewell. He honorably served in the United States Army in WWII.
On October 10, 1942 Buck married the love of his life Vada Elaine Lance in Buckley. They celebrated 71 wonderful years together this year. Buck was a hardworking dairy farmer throughout most of his life. After the farming years were over, they moved to Green Lake for part of the year and wintered in sunny Florida. In his spare time, he enjoyed watching baseball, deer hunting, fishing and playing golf. He was even fortunate enough to celebrate two hole in one's in his life. Spending time with his family was also important to him. He especially loved being a grandfather and great grandfather. Buck was a member of the Grant United Methodist Church for many years.
Buck will be remembered for the love for his family, his sense of humor and his smile. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Buck is survived by his wife Vada, son Steven "Brent"(Barbara) Jewell of Buckley, daughter Claudia (Phil) Harris of Wisconsin, foster daughter Judy Vieux of New York, grandchildren Steven (Karen), Stacey (Curtis), Danielle (Bob), Melissa, Alex, and Daniel (Tammy), great grandchildren Adam, Steven, Sierra, Glynnis, Hannah, Lydia, Tim, and Caspar, great great grandson Gabriel, brother Claude (Karla) Jewell of Buckley and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Buck was preceded in death by his parents, granddaughters Stephanie Pierce and Stasha Kastenschmidt, grand daughter-in-law Tina Harris, brother Ethard Jewell, and sisters Marvella Davison and Bonita Zalud.
Visitation will be held from 10-11am on Saturday October 12, 2013 at the Grant United Methodist Church with a the service beginning at 11am. Memorial contributions in memory of Buck may be directed to the church. Please sign Buck's online guestbook at
