Vernon L. Smith, 94, of Traverse City, passed away on Monday April 29, 2024 at his home. Vernon was born on September 25, 1929 in Suttons Bay, to the late Leslie and Minnie (Egler) Smith.

Vernon was an auto mechanic by trade. He married the love of his life Dorothy Mae Trowbridge on October 11, 1952 and together they enjoyed 63 years of marriage. She preceded him in death on July 1, 2022.

They were blessed with five children, Robert, Ronald, Connie, Dianne and Cory. Also surviving are four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Vernon was a lifetime fan of the Boston Red Sox and every Sunday, during the summer and fall, he would watch NASCAR. In his younger years, he was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a lifetime resident of Traverse City.

Friends are welcome to visit with Vernon's family from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Friday, May 10, 2024 at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, 305 Sixth St. Traverse City, Michigan 49684.

A funeral service honoring Vernon will take place at 11:00 a.m., with visitation starting at 10:00 a.m., on Saturday, May 11, 2024 at Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home.
