Vesta A. Sedlacek, 98, of Kingsley, Michigan, passed away peacefully in May 9, 2026 at Boardman Glens, surrounded by her loving family.
Vesta was born on February 16, 1928, in Kingsley, Michigan, to William and Maude Saxton. She graduated from Kingsley High School and, on November 2, 1946, married Rudy Sedlacek. Together they shared 63 years of marriage until Rudy's passing on October 19, 2009.
Vesta dedicated many years of service to her community. She worked for eighteen years as the Village Clerk for the Village of Kingsley and also served as Deputy Treasurer and Township Clerk for Paradise Township. Throughout her life, she remained actively involved in numerous organizations, including the Kingsley School Board of Education, PTA, Civic Club, Library Association, County Library Board, and the Women's Evergreen Cemetery Association. In 1992, she was honored by the State of Michigan as Kingsley Citizen of the Year.
More than anything, Vesta cherished her family and the home she created for them. Her house was a gathering place filled with laughter, conversation, and an open door for her children, grandchildren, and many friends who came and went over the years. She proudly hosted Club 18 gatherings and was its longest-living original member. Vesta also lovingly
baked and decorated wedding cakes for her children and grandchildren, creating memories that will be treasured for generations.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rudy; her parents, William and Maude Saxton; her brother, John Saxton; her sister, Faye Waslawski; and her children, William and Kay Sedlacek.
Vesta is survived by her children, Cathy (Sam) Wright, Shelly Hulwick, Mitchell (Jessi) Sedlacek, Kerri (Jay) Harry, and Lori {David) Wetherholt, along with 16 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will take place on Sunday May 17, 2026 from 5 to 7 pm. A funeral service will be held at Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home on Monday, May 18, 2026 11 am with visitation one hour prior. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Kingsley, Michigan.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Michigan or The Rock in Kingsley, Michigan.
