TRAVERSE CITY — Victor John Blandin, 85, of Traverse City and formerly of Flint, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2011, at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City. Victor was born on July 20, 1926, to the late Victor C. and Helen (McGary) Blandin in New Rochelle, N.Y. Vic made his way to Maryland and eventually Flint. Settling in Flint, Vic began selling cars at the Buick garage, and his passion for motor vehicles grew from there. Vic made the move to Northern Michigan in 1964, joining Chet Swanson at the Cadillac dealership before going it alone with Vic Blandin Auto Sales. Vic capped off what seemed to be a lifelong career in automobiles, retiring from Hertz Used Cars Sales.Vic proudly answered the call of duty serving his country as a member of the United States Navy during World War II.On Oct. 9, 1986, in true Vic fashion, while vacationing at a NADA auto convention in New Orleans he entered into marriage with the former Mary Whitelock.Vic could often be found spending time on the water, boating and enjoying time with family and friends. He was a member of Elks Lodge 323 and the AMVETS 0114 in Elk Rapids. Vic will be remembered for his hard work, passion and friendly nature.Victor is survived by his wife, Mary (Whitelock) Blandin, of Williamsburg; his son, Mark Blandin, of Traverse City; his daughter, Pamela (Tom) Proctor, of Elk Rapids; stepdaughters, Marty (Jeffrey) Watts, Lisa Oleson and Paula Oleson, all of Traverse City; seven grandchildren, Angela and Nicholas Blandin, Megan and Benjamin Watts, and Amber, Torry and Haley Grace Chile; his brother, Tom Blandin; three sisters, Lois Krause, Betty Seuss and Phyllis (Phil) Meade; and many other loving family members and friends.Victor was preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret Mallery Blandin; his parents; brother, Larry Blandin; and sisters, Helen Leonard, Corinne Capebianco, Ann Shannon and Jane Wright.Cremation has taken place and memorial services will take place at noon on Monday, Oct. 31, 2011, at Grace Episcopal Church in Traverse City, with visitation one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Katheryn King will officiate.Memorial contributions may be directed to Aleda E.
