Media personality extraordinaire, Victor Ira McCarty III, passed away April 6, 2026, at Munson Hospice House in Traverse City, MI. Victor was born in Long Beach, CA on February 11, 1961 to Victor and Patricia (Neilson) McCarty. Graduating from Pepperdine University in 1984 with a degree in Broadcasting
In 1996, Vic's broadcasting career brought him to northern Michigan from Roswell, NM. As the sports anchor for 7 & 4 News, Vic, quickly became recognized for his magnetic personality, clever humor, knowledge and professionalism.
For a "million" years, radio listeners have enjoyed Vic's morning talk show on WTCM AM580. If lucky enough to be invited as a guest on Vic's show you were sure to feel warmly welcomed, laugh heartily, and appreciate recognition that comes from such a long-respected broadcaster.
Vic's Lutheran faith was important to him. He was a lifelong member of the Missouri Synod.
When not chasing down interviews or preparing his daily shows, Vic enjoyed golfing and gardening. To meet Vic was to become his friend - unless, of course, you admitted to being a Dallas Cowboys fan! And even after living over twenty years in Michigan, Vic's football allegiance remained with the Green Bay Packers.
In addition to more friends and fans than could ever be documented in writing, Vic was preceded in death by his father and is survived by his mother, Patricia of Long Beach, CA, and two sisters, and Lindsey McCarty of Long Beach, CA and Kelley McCarty of Empire, MI.
A memorial service for Vic will be held on May 23, at 11:00 a.m. with a visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. at Reynolds Jonkhoff Funeral Home and Cremation Services. For those wishing to give a gift in memory of Vic, contributions may be directed to Project Feed the Kids, Cognition Science and Discovery Center Museum in Beulah, and Mancelona Iron Vault.
