Obituary

Traverse City - Victor Charles Schroeder, 89, of Interlochen and formerly of Detroit, MI, died Thursday, January 28, 2016 at Cherry Hill Haven.

Vic was born on June 9, 1926 to the late Arthur and Elsa (Kempff) Schroeder in Detroit, MI.

He honorably served our country, as an Electrician in the United States Navy, during World War II .

Vic entered into marriage with Esther M (Kroepel) Schroeder on November 25, 1950 in Detroit, MI after meeting at church.

For 38 years, Victor worked as a Union Electrician, retiring in 1988. He held a 65 year membership with IBEW Local 58. Vic was also a lifetime member of the VFW Interlochen Post # 7493. After retirement ,Vic and Es moved to Interlochen in 1989 from Clawson, MI. and they lived in the log cabin that Vic built. Here they enjoyed singing and playing music for over 25 years at area care centers and also at The Gathering Place in Honor. He lived, and also loved, to sing. And was singing just moments before he peacefully passed away. In his younger years, he sang in a Barbershop Quartet and Chorus for 15 years. Vic was also a long time member of Redeemer Lutheran Church. He will be greatly missed for his beautiful bass voice, his caring heart, and wonderful sense of humor.

Victor is survived by his wife of 65 years, Esther Marie Schroeder , two daughters; Heidi (Jeffrey) Good and Johanna (Jim) DeMeyer; sons-in-law Tom Little and Jack (Doreen) Pitluk; grandchildren Sarah Little, Gretchen (Cory) Coken, Timothy Dillon, Jacob Little, Paul Dillon, Charles Dillon, Elizabeth Good, Nathan (Georgia) Pitluk, Hannah Good; great grandson Hunter Dillon and great granddaughters Mia and Morgan Coken; sisters; Dorene Hatfield and Betty Kausch; special "adopted" family Susan and John Leone and their children Dante and Jake; as well as many other family members and friends.

Victor was preceded in death by his daughters Suzanne M. Pitluk , Gretchen L. Little, and brother Arthur.

Visitation for friends and family will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm on Friday, February 5, 2016 at Redeemer Lutheran Church.

The funeral service will take place on Saturday February 6, 2016 at 11:00 am with visitation beginning one hour prior, also at the Redeemer Lutheran Church with Pastor Berlin and Pastor Bauer officiating.

Graveside services where Vic will receive military honors will be held at Mount Hope Cemetery on Friday June 17, 2016 at 3:00 pm.
