TRAVERSE CITY — Virginia "Ginny" Lee Throop, 87, of Traverse City, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2012, at Munson Medical Center. She was born April 7, 1924, in Flint, to the late Herbert and Elsie (Johnson) Allen. Ginny married Thorp "Bill" Throop on June 28, 1947, in Traverse City. Ginny proudly served in the United States Army as a WAC in World War II. She enjoyed gardening and spending time with her children and grandchildren.Surviving Ginny are her children, Janet Kaley, of East Lansing, Barbara Weese, of Grawn, and James Throop, of Traverse City; brothers, Charles Allen and Robert (Tessie) Allen; 12 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Ginny was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bill; her daughter, Sherry Johnson in 1992; and her son, David Allen Throop in 2002.A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 3, 2012, at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, with a visitation held one hour prior. Burial will take place in Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be directed to the DAV or the American Cancer Society.
