Obituary

TRAVERSE CITY - Virginia A. Quarles, 87, of Traverse City, passed away June 14, 2016 peacefully at her home. Virginia was born on November 11, 1928 in Detroit, to the late Horace B. and Ethelyn M (Jordan) Annas.

Known by many as Tuffy, a nickname given by her sisters, she married her loving husband Max E. Quarles in September of 1952. They moved to Birmingham where they raised their three children until his death in 1977. She and her youngest son then moved to Traverse City where she remained. During her years in Traverse City she enjoyed the beauty of the area, her cottage on Lime Lake, her time as a docent at Dennos Museum and the group of ladies in her exercise class.

She is survived by her sons Bob ( Ann) Quarles, of Rochester; Jim (Jill) Quarles of Northville; daughter, Jean (Charles) Peplinski of Cedar; grandchildren Max and Jake Quarles of Rochester, Nathan and Wade of Cedar, Tanner Quarles of Northville; sister, Barbara Robinson; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased in death by her husband Max; sister; Emily McNeil; brothers in-law, Bill McNeil, and Rob Robinson.

A memorial service will be held on Sat. July 23, 2016, at 10:30 a.m. at the First Congregational Church in Traverse City. Burial will be at White Chapel Cemetery in Troy.

Memorial contributions in Virginia's name may be directed to Hospice of Michigan or The Dennos Museum.
