Volney Douglas Throop "Doug" passed away peacefully on Monday, November 20, 2023. Doug was born on December 17, 1942 in Traverse City, Michigan to Volney Charles Throop and Eliza Jane (Manville) Throop.
Doug worked as a machinist and took pride in his perfectionism. Throughout his life Doug enjoyed being outdoors. He was an accomplished hunter and fly-fisherman. He was a longtime member of the Suttons Bay Conservation League. He was an expert craftsman when it came to making and tying his own flies for fishing. Over the years he enjoyed watching sports, photography and kicking up his heels on Saturday nights at The Hayloft.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Lynn Throop.
He is survived by daughters, Marci (Jim) Novak and Brandi (Jason) Damveld; grandchildren, Taylor (Darin) Walker and Carter Didion; great-grandchildren Malcolm and Calvin Walker.
A memorial service honoring Doug will take place at 11:00 a.m., with visitation starting at 10:00 a.m., on Saturday, December 2, 2023 at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, 305 Sixth Street, Traverse City, Michigan 49684. Burial of Doug's cremated remains will follow in Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens. Pastor Chris Lane will officiate.
