In the early morning hours of September 28, 2015, surrounded by his family & friends, Walter James Carboneau III was lifted in prayer into the loving arms of Jesus. Walt had bravely, and with great courage, battled cancer for the last seven years of his life.
Walt was a proud native of Traverse City, and was born August 9, 1951 to Walter and Phyllis Carboneau II.
Walt was an avid golfer, with a beautiful golf swing, and began his life long love affair with the sport working at the Traverse City Golf and Country Club. He began as a caddy, worked as a boot black, and then on to Grounds Keeper. Walt's eyes would light up when he spoke of his experiences working at the Country Club. Of any job Walt ever had, he enjoyed this one the most.
Walt was also proud of the thirty years he spent working as a Material Handler for United Technologies/Lear Corporation.
Walt loved spending time with his family and especially his three grandchildren, Parker, Conner, and Jordan. Walt was an avid collector of all things Coca~Cola, Hot Wheels, Match Box, and his favorite, M&M`s. He was also a voracious reader and loved classic rock.
Walt is survived by his one true love, Irene (Hall), daughter Lindsay (Jamie) Peaslee; Sister, Ann Carboneau; Nephews Corie (Melissa), and Cory (Elizabeth) Sarenius; Grandchildren, Parker, Conner, and Jordan; Cousins Cary Blackmer, Tampa, FL, Elinor Reading (John Saunders), Toronto Canada, Melissa Reading (John Castor) Livermore, CA, and Arlene Oakland (Mark Lifter) Farmington Hills, MI.
A Memorial Service will take place Friday, October 2, 2015, at Grawn United Methodist Church, 1260 S. West Silver Lake Road, Traverse City, MI 49685 at 1:00pm with visitation beginning at 12:00pm. Pastor Colleen Wierman will be officiating.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution can be made in Walt's name to Munson Hospice.
The family would like to express their great appreciation to the Munson Hospice Team for the compassionate and loving care given during this time in Walt's life.
