Walter Erwin Moore, Jr., born in Binghamton, NY on June 3, 1941 passed away peacefully on Sunday morning January 19, 2020 at his home in Traverse City, MI after a brief but courageous battle with cancer.

Walt was raised in Jackson, MI, where he met the love of his life Joyce Mading in high school, before winning her over soon after. Upon graduating from Michigan State University, they moved to Essexville, MI building a new home, with the help of his brother Dr. Allen Moore, started a family and his career with Laine Appold & Company CPA's in 1966. Walt would work his entire distinguished professional career at the firm before retiring in 2003. Walt was an active member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, First Presbyterian Church, a founding member of the Bay City Morning Rotary Club, United Way Chairman, and member of the Bay City Country Club. Each of his children would attend and graduate from Michigan State University, and he always beamed with pride to have them follow in his East Lansing footsteps.

After retirement, Walt and Joyce spent time at their beloved cottage in Wequetonsing, MI before moving to Traverse City. In Traverse City, they quickly found cherished neighborhood relationships especially with his regular scramble game golfing pals. His family was always most important. Walt and Joyce have attended countless gymnastics competitions, dance recitals and competitions, swim meets, volleyball matches, and junior high basketball games to support their grandchildren. A close second was his passion for sports most importantly Michigan State athletics. He had the delights of a sports lifetime to attend MSU's national basketball championship game in 2000, and also walk the Augusta National Golf Club course.

Walt is survived by his loving wife of fifty-six years Joyce and his children Bruce (Nanci), Todd (Sue) and Suzanne Kaberle (Jake). His precious grandchildren Alexis, Jack, Abigail, Katherine, Kendall and Keagan along brother/sister in laws, nieces and nephews from both families. He is preceded by his parents Walter, Sr. and Caroline Moore, brothers James and Allen Moore and in-laws Bennie and Vizella Mading.

Visitation will be held from 3:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 23, 2020 at Penzien and Steele Funeral Home, 608 N Madison Ave, Bay City, MI. A Traverse City visitation will also be held on Tuesday, January 28, 2020 from 4:00 – 7:00 at Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, 305 6th St., Traverse City, MI.
