Walter Ray Poertner

Walter Ray "Bob" Poertner passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 27, 2023 surrounded by his loving family. Bob was born on September 12, 1958 in Traverse City Michigan to Walter and Bessie Poertner. Bob served in the Army from 1982 through 1986. He married the love of his life Patricia Poertner (Alberts) on February 14, 1987.

Bob was an avid Hunter and outdoorsman. Bob was a carpenter, he loved using his hands to fix and build things. He was a jack of all trades. Bob was employed in the maintenance department for many years at the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians. Bob especially loved his family, his wife, his children and those ten beautiful grandchildren.

Bob is survived by his wife of 36 years, Patty, his two children, Ashley (Mike) Lebel, Jeremy (Chelsea Bley) Poertner, both of Traverse City. Ten grandchildren; Kamilè, Sawyer, James, Landon, Delilah, Xander, Isadora, Juniper, Callie Jean, and Holland. His best friend, Joseph Kutten. His half-brothers, John and Dave Sheets, his half-sister, Rosemary, his brother-in-law, Wilmer Alberts Jr, his sisters-in-law, Gudrun Poertner, Shirley Shananaquet, Melissa Alberts, and Mary (Earl) Pelcher. Bob has many extended family and friends.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, his half-brothers, Gary, Elmer, Willard, and Earl Poertner. His sisters, Evelyn, Helen, and Marilda. His brothers-in-law, Michael and Martin Shananaquet. His sister-in-law, Theresa Shananaquet.

Bob was a hard-working man who could be counted on to help out anybody.

In accordance with Bob's wishes cremation has taken place.
