Walter A Pomianek

January 11, 1922 — March 20, 2013

Traverse City-Walter A. Pomianek, Sr., 91, a true family man of Interlochen,
died Wednesday morning, March 20, 2013, at Munson Medical Center following a lingering illness.

Born January 11, 1922, in Wilkes Barre, PA, he was the son of the late
Anthony and Catherine (Dombrowski) Pomianek.

He attended and graduated from Hanover Township High School in
Pennsylvania well as attending Wilkes College in Pennsylvania and the
University of Detroit, studying engineering.

Walter married the love of his life, Margaret "Marge" Stiber 64 years ago.They
relocated to the Detroit area for his career and to start a family.
Walter was employed by the Jervis B. Webb Co in Farmington Hills,
serving as Chief Automation Engineer for more than 30 years. Following
retirement in 1985, Walt and Marge relocated to their home
on Cedar Hedge Lake near Interlochen.

Walt was very patriotic and proud of his military service to his
country. During WWII, he served as a 1st Class Petty Officer and a Navigator
in the aviation division of the Navy from 1941 to 1948 in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre.
In addition, he was a life member of the Interlochen V.F.W. #7493 and held
several offices over the years, including Post Commander.

Walter was an avid reader, especially of historical and nonfiction
literature, a golfer, loved gardening and mushroom hunting in
the fall. He also enjoyed playing cards, hunting and fishing. But his
greatest love of all was spending time with his family of whom he was so
proud.

He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and was a devout
Christian. Walter loved the Lord with a perpetual spring of faith.

Walter will be forever loved and missed by his wife
Margaret of Interlochen; children, Catherine
Warner, Walt Pomianek and Mary (Lynn) Patrick all of Traverse City;
close family friend, Larry Coates; grandchildren, Matthew (Elisa)
Pomianek, Bryan (Ashley) Warner, Christina (Martin) Pomianek-Dames,
Eric Iversen and Sean Patrick; great grandchildren, Grant and Harper
Grace Pomianek; siblings, Bertha Dobson, Theodore Pomianek, Stanley Pomianek and Florence (Richard) Kingsland along with many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son, Robert Pomianek; a sister, Helen Bankos; and a brother, John Pomann.

Friends may call at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home on Sunday, March
24, 2013, from 2:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M., with a Vigil Service at 5:00
P.M.

A Funeral Mass will be offered on Monday, March 25, 2013, at St. Patrick
Catholic Church at 11:00 A.M. with visitation one hour prior to the
service. Rev. Fr. Gregory McCallum will preside.

Burial will take place this spring at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Interlochen.

In remembrance of Walt, memorial contributions may be directed to Green
Lake Township EMS or to the Interlochen V.F.W. #7493. Envelopes may
be obtained either at the church or the funeral home.
