Obituary

WILLIAMSBURG — Wilfred D. "Bill" Smith, 84, formerly of Pontiac, West Bloomfield, and a resident of Williamsburg since 2003, passed away Nov. 29, 2010, at his home.Bill was born in Pontiac on April 15, 1926, to the late Owen W. and M. Corine (Lareau) Smith. He was preceded in death by one brother, Edmund O. Smith.Bill was a graduate of St. Michaels High School in Pontiac in 1944. He proudly served in the United States Navy during World War II. In 1950 he graduated from the University of Detroit with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration.He was employed by the Pontiac Daily Press (Oakland Press) and GMC Truck and Coach in Pontiac, and retired from Campbell-Ewald Advertising Agency in Detroit in 1983.Bill is survived by his wife, Marilyn (Stack) Smith, of Williamsburg; his children, James H. (Dawn) Smith, of Traverse City, and Suzanne Smock, of Highland; three grandchildren, Matthew D. Smock, of Pennsylvania, James H. Smith Jr. and Jessica M. Smith, both of Traverse City; and two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Smith, of Farmington Hills, and Jane Stack, of West Bloomfield.A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at Christ the King Catholic Church in Acme on Saturday, Dec. 4, 2010, at noon, with visitation one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Jerry Micketti will serve as the celebrant. Burial will take place at Acme Township Cemetery.In remembrance of Bill, memorials may be directed to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation or to the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
