William Nichols Scott, called Bill, joined his Lord and Savior on Monday, June 16, 2025, at age 92.
Born in Ridgewood, NJ, and raised in Shaker Heights, OH, Bill drew strength and a lasting love of golf from his parents, Thomas and Therese. He gave his life to Jesus early and lived his faith daily.
On June 18, 1955, Bill married Jean, the love of his life. For nearly 70 years, they were pillars of their family, community, and Church.
Cars played a central role in Bill's life. He refurbished a car in high school and later owned a Model T, proudly wearing Model T suspenders. He studied at Middlebury College, earned a B.S. in Engineering from Case Western, a Master's in Automotive Engineering from Chrysler, and an MBA from Michigan State. He began his career with Chrysler and later joined Murray Ohio Manufacturing, a role that allowed him and Jean to travel extensively.
A licensed pilot, Bill flew his Mooney across the country, crafting earmuffs for their flying dogs. Every summer, each grandchild was flown to Nashville for a special week alone. In retirement, he and Jean continued their adventures by air and sea. At 90, Bill climbed the Acropolis in Athens.
Recently, Bill enjoyed walking dogs and visiting with neighbors. He will be deeply missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Thomas (Betty); daughter Jennifer; and son Bradford.
He is survived by his wife Jean; son William "Bill" Jr. (Irene); grandchildren Justin (Georgina), Christopher (Jessica), and Kaitlyn (Brian) Turner; and great-grandchildren Isabella, Jedidiah, Ludwig, Adelyn, Karl, and Nora.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 26, 2025, at Mission Hill Church, Traverse City (visitation at 10:00 a.m.). Burial took place in Nashville. Memorial contributions may be made to Community Bible Study.
