William (Bill) H. Dunn 82 of Traverse City passed away peacefully on October 26, 2022.
Bill was born April 30, 1940 to William and Gladys (Semrow) Dunn on a farm on East Silver Lake Road. He was the youngest of four children and the only boy of the family. Early in life he had a passion for showing horses and liked to say that he won the heart of his future wife Jean because he was the one with a horse trailer.
On August 12, 1961 Bill married Jean J. Johnson and they built a home and raised their family also on East Silver Lake Road.
After initially working at Consumers Energy, Bill became a business owner doing excavating and property development. Following retirement, he restored Farmall tractors and spent many happy years traveling and attending various antique tractor shows. Bill and Jean later bought a piece of property in Webster, Florida and built a seasonal home for themselves with space for friends and family to visit. Bill continued to enjoy his snow-free winters and friends in Webster after Jean's passing in 2010.
Bill cared deeply for his family and made many lasting friendships. He could fix and create most anything, was the caregiver for numerous relatives during his life and always had a plan; whether it was for building a structure, solving a problem or helping Jean with one of her many schemes; such as figuring out how to get live turkeys in to her classroom at Thanksgiving, planning the perfect scavenger hunts and camping trips for the grandchildren, or getting treat-filled eggs in to the hardest to reach places for family Easter parties.
Bill is survived by his Aunt Lois Johnson, Sister Dorothy (Dave) Youker, Children Lisa (Bob) Dant and Jon (Amber) Dunn, Grandchildren Rachel (Tim Smith), Sarah, Ryan and Connor, Great Grandson Layne and his good friend Sally Charest.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Bina (Byron) Anger and Mildred (Clyde) Robertson, Brother-In-Law Denny (Jackie) Johnson and his wife Jean.
The family would like to thank the staff of Munson Family Practice, French Manor South and Hospice of Michigan for their exemplary care.
A small, private celebration of Bill's life will be held at a later date.
