Obituary

TRAVERSE CITY — Former Franklin, Mich., resident William Halliday passed away quietly in Traverse City Thursday morning, Jan. 19, 2012.Mr. Halliday was born in Dumfries, Scotland, in 1925, where he volunteered for service with the Royal Air Force and Navy. He served on an aircraft carrier during World War II. His tour of duty included a stop in India.He moved to the United States in the early 1950s to pursue an engineering career in the tool and die field. During his career, he worked in the Detroit area for Chicago based Littell Machine Company. He received many sales awards while working for Michigan-based COE Press Equipment before becoming a self-employed sales engineer.He spent 35 years in Franklin serving as a volunteer Franklin Police Officer and the President of the FCA (Franklin Community Association) before retiring to Traverse City, where he enjoyed golfing, reading, bagpipe bands and performers.William is survived by his wife of 59 years, June Halliday; son and daughter-in-law, David and Karen Halliday; daughter, Sherry L.
