KINGSLEY — William "Bill" Jay Houghton, 70, of Kingsley, passed away Friday, Jan. 13, 2012, at Munson Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family.Bill was born Aug. 31, 1941, in Kingsley, to the late Earl and Norva (Weaver) Houghton. He married Carol Knight on Jan. 19, 1974, in Traverse City.Bill honorably served our country in the Vietnam War. He loved to hunt deer and fish. Bill was a devoted member at Fife Lake Baptist Church. He loved to serve in many ways, either through his nursing home ministry or just helping others. He will be fondly remembered as a great man and a person who was always willing to lend a hand.Surviving Bill are his wife, Carol; stepchildren, Donald Kelley, Cheryl Miller, Faye Kelley, James Kelley and Brenda Kelley; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; and siblings, Betty Shaw, Velma Parker, Pat Jacobs, Barbara Roop, Milo Houghton and Earl Houghton.Visitation will be held for Bill from 2 to 4 p.m. today, Jan. 15, 2012, at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Fife Lake Baptist Church, with a visitation held one hour prior. Burial will take place in the spring at Evergreen Cemetery in Kingsley.
