Obituary

Williamsburg - William John Avitts, 88, of Williamsburg passed away on Thursday, January 17, 2019 at Munson Medical Center.

William was born on November 25, 1930 in Leachville, AR to the late Jessie and Mollie (Steele) Avitts.

Bill honorably served our country as a member of the United States Army in the medical corp. in Austria, during the Korean War.

On June 29, 1957 Bill married the love of his life, Judith B. Brockway in Flint.

Bill earned his bachelor's in science degree from Ferris State University. He was the Vice President and a Pharmacist at Ideal Pharmacy and he was the Past President of the Genesee County Pharmaceutical Society. He was a member of Williamsburg United Methodist Church, the Elks, and a longtime member of Lions Club. In his free time, he was an avid golfer; he played through the 2017 season.

Bill is survived by his wife of 62 years, Judy; his brother; Paul (Ruth) Avitts, his sister Chery (Fred) Wagonlander; niece and nephews; Christine Koop, Ralph (Jackie) Blue, Mary Beth (Matthew) Anderson, David Avitts, Steven Avitts, Mark (Nancy) Avitts, Lori (Ron) Eastwood, John (Jennifer) Wagonlander and Katie Wagonlander. Also surviving are grand nieces and nephews; Tonya (Blue) (Ron) Eads, Nicole (Blue) (Wayne) Madsen, Aaron (Cindy) Blue, Keely (Anderson) (Matthew) Marinella, Matthew (Katherine) Anderson, Scott (Cailey) Anderson, Haley (Koop) (Ted) Elliott, Sally (Koop) (Clint) Babcock, Charles "Chas" Koop, II as well as many other grand nieces; Ella, Henry, Miranda, Alayna, Jennifer, Katie, Kassi, Peyton, Addy, Laurel, Otis, Taylor Nora, Connor, Kaydee, Macy, Steven, Bridget, Matthew, and John Paul.

Bill was preceded in death by his brother Stanley Avitts and nephew Charles Koop, and a grand niece, Nicole Avitts.

The service celebrating Bill's life will be held on Saturday, January 26, 2019 at 11:00 a.m., with family visitation at 10:00 a.m. and public visitation at 10:30 a.m. at the Williamsburg United Methodist Church, 5750 Williamsburg Rd, Williamsburg, MI 49690. Burial will take place at a later date at the Sunset Hills Cemetery in Flint for family and friends.
