Traverse City - William Thomas Olson, 92, of Traverse City and formerly of Hillside, IL, passed away on Wednesday, January 30, 2013 at Grand Traverse Pavilions-Willow Cottage in Traverse City.
William was born on July 12, 1920 to the late Maurice and Hilda (Thompson) Olson in Chicago, IL.
William entered into marriage with the former Betty Georgia Schramm in October of 1940 in Chicago, IL. She preceded him in death. Later in life William married Yetta Stage Olson, she survives him. William is survived by his son: Tom (Laurie) Olson of Traverse City, MI, his daughter, Claudia King of Marengo, IL, his daughter-in-law, Shirley Olson of Schaumburg, IL, nine grandchildren and (18) great-grandchildren.
William honorably served in the United States Army during World War II. He retired as a Captain from the Hillside, IL police department. William was a member of American Legion in Hillside, IL and yacht clubs of both Three Rivers and Joliet.
William was preceded in death by his son, James Olson, three brothers: Howard Olson, George Olson, and Ray Olson.
Honoring William's wishes cremation has taken place. A committal services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 6, 2013 in Mt. Emblem Cemetery Chapel, 520 E.Grand Ave Elmhurst, IL 60126. Douglas Olson will officiate. Military honors conducted under the auspices the United States Army.
