Obituary

Bill Foster died peacefully in his sleep Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2019 at his home in Traverse City. Bill was born Nov. 10, 1943 in Cincinnati, Ohio, to William and Lyla Foster.

He proudly attended Indiana's Culver Academy for years, graduating from Cincinnati's Walnut Hills High School in 1962 and then the University of Cincinnati's class of 1966, earning a Bachelor of Business Administration degree. Bill worked as an instructor at Culver and then in auto sales in Cincinnati.

In 1974 he moved his young family back to his ancestral home in Traverse City. Bill's gregarious personality worked well with his successful sales career. While in Traverse City, he owned his own auto sales business and also worked as a top salesman at Wares Auto and Marsh Auto. Bill was known for being outgoing and intelligent with a good sense of humor and a smile that came easily to him, and we hope that smile is what people remember. He enjoyed boating, fly fishing, swimming, sailing, woodworking and visiting his friends and family. He was very grateful to volunteer both at Inland Seas Education of Suttons Bay, as well as at Grace Episcopal Church, where he served at the church itself as well as at Safe Harbor on behalf of the church.

On July 4, 1992 at his home on Washington Street in Traverse City, he married his true partner, Deborah "Debby," formerly Rigoulot. They shared many activities together and complemented each other beautifully.

He is survived by his wife, Debby; his children, Michael (Maureen Harty) Foster, Cynthia Foster Stanley, of Cleveland, Tennessee, Stephen (Jen) Foster, of Seminole, Florida, and Susan (John) Gallo, of New York, NY; and his grandchildren, Adam Foster, Sean Stanley and Keira and Emily Foster.

A memorial service honoring Bill will be held Saturday, Aug. 31, 2019, at 11 a.m. at Grace Episcopal Church, 341 Washington St., Traverse City, MI 49684. Friends and family may visit from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church.

Memorial gifts may be directed to Inland Seas Education of Suttons Bay as well as at Grace Episcopal Church.

Bill and his family are in the care of the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home.
