Willo M. Spangler, 89, of Grawn, joined her loved ones in heaven on May 14, 2017 at Country Pleasures Assisted Living.
Willo was born on December 5, 1927 in Thompsonville to Ulna Murr and Bernice Estrella (Hessem) Harger. She married Calvin "Cal" Spangler in Traverse City on October 7, 1950.
Willo worked hard her entire life, retiring from Michigan Bell in 1980 after 34 years of service. During that time, she also worked with Cal on the farm and maintained a large yard and garden. She was a great cook and enjoyed hosting family holiday gatherings. Willo and Cal owned and operated Center Raceway Stockcar Track on their property in Monroe Center from 1968 until 1978. They were also active members of the Northwest Michigan Draft Horse Club and enjoyed hosting "Plow Day" each spring. Willo loved their annual deer hunting trip to the U.P. and had several antler mounts to show for it. Willo was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, the Grawn United Methodist Church, and the Grawn Fire Department Auxiliary.
Willo is survived by her brother, Caroll (Lucille) Harger of Manton and many loving nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Cal in 2015; her parents, sister Roseannah Keith and her husband, LaVerne and an infant sister.
The family would like to thank the entire staff at Country Pleasures for the excellent care and loving kindness she received during her time there. She thought of you all as her extended family.
The funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. Friday at the Grawn United Methodist Church with visitation one hour prior to the service. Pastor Colleen Wierman will officiate. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Grawn.
The family has asked that memorial contributions in Willo's name be directed to Heartland Hospice or to the Grawn United Methodist Church.
