Wilma Ruth Halliburton

Wilma Ruth Halliburton, 89, of Traverse City passed away September 12, 2016 at Munson Medical Center.

Wilma was born on May 25, 1927 in Bakersfield, CA to the late William and Virginia (Tardiff) D'Arcy Irvine.

While attending UCLA Wilma met the love of her life Louis Halliburton. After earning her bachelor's degree in Geography in 1949, Wilma and Louis were united in marriage on January 14, 1950 in Los Angeles. In 1966, they moved to Michigan for Louis to continue working at Ford. They spent a short time in Tennessee in the late 1980's and eventually retired to Northern Michigan. Before moving north they resided in Ann Arbor, Michigan for 25 years. Wilma loved to read and passed that love on to her children and grandchildren. She had a very sharp mind for current events and in her early years was politically active. Her greatest gift was her artistic talent that many people admired and purchased at her booth in Ann Arbor each art fair. She taught art at the YMCA and co owned a gallery in Plymouth Michigan where she and other women sold their work. Wilma could talk to anybody and make them feel good about themselves. Her favorite saying when working on her art was. "There are no mistakes, only makes".
In her spare time, Wilma loved visiting the Dollar Store. She will be greatly missed by her family and neighbors at Bay Ridge Assisted Living.

Wilma is survived by her son Jay (Mary), daughter Dawn (Tim) Dunham, son-in-law Nan-Yao Su; grandchildren Emily (Michael) Townsend, Mandy Su, Kevin Dunham, and Justin Su.

Wilma was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her beloved daughter who shared her passion for art, Jill.

The family will celebrate Wilma's life privately.
