Obituary

Zachary Bickmann, age 25, passed away suddenly on April 19, 2026. Zach was one of three boys (Jonathan and Alexander), but he belonged to a much bigger family. Zach's life was further enriched by growing up side-by-side with his best friend and cousin Luke, and the Hunds (Ryan, Eric, and Blake), forming a chaotic, loving, and inseparable pack of boys. He was a kind and wonderful son, brother, and friend to all. A selfless, loving, dependable, courageous, and curious young man, Zach always had the biggest smile on his face no matter the circumstance.

Zach graduated from Oakland University with a bachelor’s degree in computer science and most recently worked as an IT specialist for Shoreline Fruit Company and Munson Hospital. He consistently put those around him above himself, whether dealing with a longtime friend or a stranger he had just met. His only goal was to help the people he encountered: volunteering at downtown food kitchens, serving through his church, and simply being there for his family and friends. Zach was truly a light in this sometimes-dark world, and our family cannot adequately express how much he meant to us. He had a positive impact on more people than he will ever know, and he was deeply loved by every single person he met.

In his free time, Zach enjoyed golfing, weightlifting, reading, boating, playing video games, cooking, and learning to hunt. He was extremely close with his entire family and spent countless hours on these activities with his brothers and his parents. Zach was kinder, smarter, stronger, funnier, and more selfless than any of us. He always wanted to learn more but was equally eager to teach what he knew. The three boys were more alike than different and always stepped up to help one another at a moment's notice. Zach was always there for us most of all.

Zach will be missed tremendously by everyone. His memory and spirit will be with us all forever.

Zach is survived by his loving parents, Daniel and Mary Kay (Nea Buczkowski) Bickmann, and brothers, Jonathan and Eva (Nea Robert) Bickmann, and Alexander Bickmann. Also survived by several aunts and uncles: Michael and Barbara Bickmann; Donna and Patrick Schweiger; David and Kendra Bickmann; Linda and Daniel Lazurka; Mary Ann and Bob Bullock; and Mark Bickmann; Gary and Lisa Buczkowski; James and Angela Buczkowski; and Donna and Carl Eaton; and cousin, Karen Hrapkiewicz; along with countless cousins.

Zach was preceded in death by his sister, Megan Bickmann; and grandparents; David and Margaret (Nea Stevens) Bickmann, and Arthur and Dolores (Nea Skroski) Buczkowski.

A Mass of Christian Burial honoring Zachary will take at 11:00 a.m., with visitation starting at 10:00 a.m., on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, 143 Charles, Elk Rapids, Michigan 49629. Fr. Christopher Jarvis will officiate. Interment will follow after luncheon, in Acme Township Cemetery.

A Mass of Remembrance will take place at 11:00 a.m., with visitation starting at 10:00 a.m., on Saturday, May 2, 2026, at St. Irenaeus Catholic Church, 771 Old Perch Rd., Rochester Hills, Michigan 48309. Fr. Gerry LeBoeuf will officiate.
