Lindsey Jonkhoff-Rogers of Reynolds Jonkhoff Funeral Home wins the Selected Independent Funeral Homes Best Practices Competition in New Orleans.

DEERFIELD, ILL. – October 2, 2015 - Selected Independent Funeral Homes, the world’s oldest and largest association of independently owned funeral homes, hosted its 97th Annual Meeting at The Roosevelt New Orleans, Sept. 16-19, 2015 drawing 225 funeral professionals from across North America, including 23 from New Zealand and Australia.

A perennial favorite of this meeting is the Best Practices Competition, which provided four Selected members the opportunity to present their unique business ideas. This year’s presenters included Helen Loring Dear, Porter Loring Mortuaries, San Antonio, TX; Kevin Schoedinger, Schoedinger & Company, Columbus, OH; Lindsey Jonkhoff-Rogers, Reynolds-Johnkhoff Funeral Home Traverse City, MI; and Marty Mitchell, Mitchell Family Funeral Home, Marshalltown, IA.

Audience members voted on their favorite presentation and selected Lindsey Jonkhoff-Rogers as the winner for her Hannah Bear Project and community outreach efforts.  Jonkhoff-Rogers created a coloring book that educates children about death, providing simple death-related vocabulary, while offering an opportunity to discuss feelings.  Hannah Bear even made a surprise, special appearance during Lindsey’s award winning presentation.
